Chapel In The Woods

On a cold, winter day in Chicago, a photo of the lovely Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, brightens my mood. The wooden and glass structure was designed by E. Fay Jones and completed in 1980. The light filled building has 425 windows, inviting the landscape in, and majestic wood trusses that soar above. The reflections and shadows within the chapel change with both the time of day and time of year. Jones was an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, which is clear in his utter respect for the natural surroundings of the Ozark hills. Jones' work was also an inspiration for KW A+D's Prairie Style Residence, designed for a dear friend.
